Chelsea finished their season on a high, taking the title of being the best side in a in consistent chasing pack. They were criticized for losing their identity and playing a brand of football not in line with the club’s ethos. Sarri struggled to find the hallowed balance between entertainment and success, and so was sacked, adding his name to the graveyard of coaches that have fallen before him.
A season filled largely with disdain and public shaming turned into something of a success story. Maurizio Sarri and his players battled to an unexpected third-place finish, a League Cup silver medal before lifting the Europa League trophy in Baku.
3rd. On paper, this was an excellent season for Chelsea with different high and lows.
They got off to a terrific start, but winter was difficult for Chelsea defeated 2-0 , 4-0, 6-0 by Arsenal, Bournemouth and Manchester City respectively in the space of three weeks.
They narrowly missed out on the Carabao Cup following a penalty shoot-out defeat to City, but went on to guide his team to the Europa League trophy.
With the arrival of Frank Lampard, it feels like there are the foundations to really push on and create a legacy, even if that remains to be seen.
With the transfer ban, they’ve been forced to work with what they have, and it also means that fans can see some youngsters come into side which they have been pinning out for years.
Eden Hazard has also felt to Real Madrid, he will be missed. But this is an opportunity to see how the team develops as a unit.
